Book Review: Remembrance Part 1: A Time for War

Anna is running. She runs from the SS and she runs from her own memories and failures. After everyone in her village was brutally murdered as she watched from the woods, including her own family, she tries to seek refuge but the Germans always catch up to her. It seems like everyone she encounters is at risk or out to report her, and she isn’t sure how long she will survive. Remembrance is book one of the Remembrance series and introduces Anna, a Jewish girl in Poland who isn’t so sure God is actually looking out for her. She has good reason to doubt her faith, since God didn’t seem to protect her family from being murdered by Nazis, and worse He didn’t give her the strength to protect them, not even her 4 year old brother, which will haunt her for the rest of her life. It seems obvious that eventually the Nazis will catch up to her, but what she will do in the mean time to survive will make everyone reading realize how comfortable and wealthy we are. Don't Forget the Reason

No book review today, just wanted to remind everyone that while you are at your BBQ to take a minute to remember why we have the day off. Someone died so you could have a parade, and while I am all for celebrating the country they fought for, I also think sometimes we forget the sacrifice. Don't leave the memory out of Memorial Day.  Please note, while there may be affiliate links or payment for reviews, all opinions are my own. You can't buy a good review from me, people. My Personal Obit - Grandma Jane

I know, a bit of a jump cut from pregnancy (baby's doing great, btw) to death, but in the wake of yet another death in the family besides Grandma Jane 's, I thought I should post my thoughts of her that I prepared in case it was one of those memorial services where the pastor asks people randomly to come up and everyone just sort of sits there looking awkward and feeling guilty that they aren't honoring the deceased. It's probably good that he didn't, as while I can give a decent prepared speech I am not an emotional extrovert (or extrovert in any sense of the word really) and I write much better than I emote. This is as close as I come to putting my heart on my sleeve, so consider yourself lucky. I remember.... It’s hard for me to come up with just one or two memories of Grandma Jane that qualify both my relationship with her as well as my perception of her as a person.
