Same Page by G.L. Tomas My rating: 3 of 5 stars Naima is new to Providence, but loving the town and her new job. She’s trying not to love her new boss, but can’t help herself. She knows he’s attached, but is his long distance relationship enough to talk herself out of him? The Same Page is a new urban romance novel that chronicles the meeting and initial attraction of Naima and Timothy. It alternates first person narration between them, and honestly I liked it. I am usually very critical of first person narration, as it’s hard to pull off, but it was really well done here. Unfortunately, part of the reason it was well done was because there was an overall lack of character depth. Despite a colorful description of the cast of characters, all of the dialogue and internal monologue sounded very similar. I am hoping that because this is a series that the characters will be developed a little more and perhaps assume more unique personalities, Still if urban romance is your thing this...

Child of Shadows by Kathe Todd My rating: 4 of 5 stars Leila has had a rough life, but she’s made the best of it. She has scrapped, stolen and survived, and while she is an excellent thief, her luck may be about to run out. Running from guards who discovered her theft, she is drawn to an eery temple and is conscripted into service by a disgraced god. Will she be able to complete his task and restore him to his former glory? Not even his gifts and her skills as a thief may get her through this adventure. Set in an alternate reality Age of Enlightenment Europe (1700s or so) where the gods are not just stories but actively participating in modern life, author Kathe Todd pits them against each other in much the same way the Greek and Roman pantheon are portrayed in the classical stories. They squabble, they manipulate, and for some reason they always require human muscle to carry out their divine intervention. Sated by Truth Devour My rating: 3 of 5 stars In the third book by Truth Devour, Sated, heroine Talia Jacobs finds herself face to face with her childhood friend and seeming soul mate, Bodhi. He is the one she has unconsciously sought her whole life, and he is finally within arm’s reach. He seems to recognize their bond too, until he doesn’t. Will Talia fight for their love, or regress into herself, as is her nature? Will they be able to finally, really connect, or is Talia doomed to live a life as only half of a whole? Sated picks up immediately where Unrequited left off at the masquerade. It is pretty clear that Talia’s life is about to take a drastic turn from her previous path, and I was disappointed to see her lose her internal monologue to some degree. One of the strengths of the writing was the ability to “see” Talia work through her emotions to find herself, and while there is still quite a bit of this in Sated it is diminished, somewhat, with a lot more description of ...
